Transfer of Credit for Doctor of Nursing Practice Students
When determining program entrance acceptance, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs allow up to 12 Core program credits (NGR prefix)/3 courses to be fulfilled with transfer credit, plus up to 15 Practicum credits/450 hours to be fulfilled with Course Waiver transfer credit. For Core courses, comparable doctorate-level courses must have been completed when the student was enrolled in a programmatically accredited program, with an accreditor recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, and within the previous five (5) calendar years of the date the student starts in the program. DNP Project courses are not eligible to be fulfilled with transfer credit and must be completed at Rasmussen University.
The student is responsible for submitting previously completed coursework for transfer credit consideration. A grade of B or higher is required for transfer credit consideration. The student will be required to provide the syllabus from the term the course was completed, as well as identify the Rasmussen course they think closely aligns with the course they completed. A maximum of four courses can be submitted for review at a time. The Dean of Nursing for DNP and MSN will determine if transfer credit will be awarded. All appeals must follow the normal Rasmussen appeal process. If more than three external courses are deemed comparable to Rasmussen courses, the student has the choice as to which three courses they would like fulfilled with transfer credit. If none of the submitted courses are accepted as transfer credit, the student may submit additional courses for review until maximum transfer credit has been awarded.
For Practicum courses, the Dean of Nursing for DNP and MSN will determine the number of total clinical/practicum hours previously earned at the post-baccalaureate level that will apply to the program. Up to 15 Practicum credits (up to 450 hours) will be waived and recorded on the student's record as Course Waiver transfer credit. The student will be required to complete the remaining practicum course hours required to complete the program.
