Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Progression Requirements

Students enrolled in this program are scheduled as a cohort and have a required course sequence and credit load that must be followed. The cohort progresses sequentially for seven quarters (full-time) or up to 14 quarters (part-time) and graduates after successful completion of all credit hours.

  1. Didactic (non-practicum courses) must be taken prior to beginning practicum courses for part-time students. For full-time students, four didactic (non-practicum courses) must be completed prior to beginning practicum experiences. The fifth non-practicum course can be taken as a corequisite course with the practicum course.
  2. The Practicum Clinical Courses (Healthcare Information and Systems Technology; Leadership; or Population and Global Health) must be taken any quarter prior to beginning the DNP Project course sequence.
  3. Effective with Spring quarter 2024, a student will be permitted to fail or withdraw from ONE course a maximum of ONE time. ALL remaining courses must be passed on the first attempt. An approved medical or military leave will not be considered when applying these policy requirements.
  4. Each didactic course in this program is offered only once each calendar year. A student will not be eligible to participate in a practicum course when the prerequisite didactic course is not passed.
  5. A student must complete this program within a four calendar-year period from the point in time of starting the program, or risk being administratively withdrawn from the program.
  6. If a student fails or withdraws from a course in the program, they will either be placed on a short term leave or be administratively withdrawn from the program at the end of the quarter.
  7. Reentry is limited to one time for students withdrawn from the program for any reason. However, students who have been administratively withdrawn/dismissed from the program for disciplinary or conduct reasons may not be eligible for reentry into the program and may not be eligible for reentry to Rasmussen University.
