Healthcare

Graduates of this program understand basic medical knowledge and skills for careers in the healthcare field. They know medical terminology, anatomy, pathology, and basic concepts of healthcare practice, procedures, and health information management. They value the ability to impact the patient experience through effective communication, maintaining patient confidentiality, and ethical and professional behavior in the healthcare environment.

Excluding Illinois campuses:

• Medical Clerk, Assistant, Coordinator, Agent, Specialist
• Medical Secretary, Administrative Assistant, Receptionist
• Scheduler

Illinois Campuses Only:

• Medical Services Technician
• Medical Registration or Receptionist

This program is not designed to prepare graduates for any state-issued professional license or certification and has not been approved by any state professional licensing agency.

In addition to meeting all other acceptance requirements, applicants must successfully pass a background check through Rasmussen University part of American Public University System ("Rasmussen")’s chosen third-party vendor. Any prospective student must also consider their history, lifestyle, and future actions before enrolling in this program, and carefully consider whether their actions may prevent them from attaining employment in the field they choose to pursue. Additional requirements, such as industry-specific training may be required to obtain employment in this field. Applicants for careers in this field may be subject to pre-employment screenings such as, but not limited to, criminal background checks, and drug/or alcohol testing. Employment decisions, including whether to require background checks and other tests, are made at the discretion of the employer.

Applicants are eligible to enroll in the Healthcare Certificate program and are not required to take the E102 Pathways to Patient Care Seminar when one of the following applies:

1. The applicant’s desired program is the Medical Assisting Diploma program but does not meet the Acceptance Requirements of already having completed at least 8 eligible credits of designated coursework that apply to the Medical Assisting Diploma program and meets all the requirements of Satisfactory Academic Progress in the most recently attended program of enrollment.
2. The applicant is enrolled through Rasmussen University Online and either does not have a School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences Entrance Exam score, or the applicant's exam score is insufficient to enroll in a different program.

Developmental Education courses, when required, do not count toward total program credits, and are not calculated in GPA. Students must demonstrate mastery of the subject matter in Developmental Education courses through a Rasmussen entrance placement exam, approved exemption based on previously completed coursework, or by passing Developmental Education courses.
