Non-retaliation Policy

The academic unit prohibits retaliation against anyone who, in good faith:

  • Files a complaint, grievance, academic appeal, or report of misconduct;
  • Participates in or cooperates with an investigation or resolution process;
  • Serves as a witness; or
  • Engages in any activity that is protected under university policy or law.

Retaliation includes actions such as intimidation, threats, coercion, adverse academic action, discrimination, harassment, or any behavior that would discourage a reasonable person from engaging in protected activity.

No student, faculty, or staff member may retaliate against anyone for reporting concerns, participating in an investigation, or exercising other protected rights.

Allegations of retaliation will be promptly investigated and may result in corrective or disciplinary action, up to and including suspension, dismissal, or termination.

This policy applies to all academic unit processes and procedures. Protection extends to complainants, respondents, witnesses, advisors, and any identified individuals choosing to participate or not participate in an institutional process and procedure.
