Final Grade Appeals Policy

Academic appeals are for final grades in a course. Students may appeal a final grade for only two reasons: (1) the final grade reflects a computational or clerical error and/or (2) the final grade does not align with the expectations of the course syllabus. Final Grade Appeals must be submitted using the official Final Grade Appeal form and include supporting documentation relevant to the appeal.

Final Grade Appeals will not be considered for the following circumstances:

  • Individual assignments;
  • Final grades posted more than 90 days ago;
  • Appeals not submitted using the official Final Grade Appeal form;
  • Students whose degrees have been conferred.

Requests to re-take exam(s) or re-submit assignment(s) are not considered part of the Final Grade Appeal and must be addressed between the student and the faculty member before the end of the term/quarter.

  • Since the grading process involves the instructor’s assessment of the student’s academic performance, the only issue under consideration for final grade appeal is whether the student can provide clear evidence that the assignment of the grade was a result of a calculation/clerical error or does not align with the expectations of the course syllabus.
  • Grades submitted by faculty at the end of each quarter are not subject to revision on the basis of additional work or a new examination. Grade disputes may not be filed for sanctions imposed under the Academic Integrity Policy or other conduct policies.
  • Decisions made by the Academic Leader are final.

Final Grade Appeal Process:

  1. Students must begin the Final Grade Appeal process through their Academic Advisor.
  2. Completed Final Grade Appeal forms and supporting documentation must be submitted no later than 11:59pm CT on the Thursday prior to the start of the subsequent quarter to receive a resolution by the end of the first week of the quarter. After 90 days, all grades are considered final.
  3. The Final Grade Appeal form and supporting documentation will be routed to the Academic Leader, who will review and render a decision. The decision of the Academic Leader is final.
  4. A decision will be communicated to the student via email within five (5) business days.
